Description
I was asked to do a page for the upcoming Worldcon's "Sunday Funnies," and since someone was already doing Tintin I chose to do a faux Scrooge McDuck page. I'm not going to the Worldcon this year and had no interest in doing anything for it, but I owed the organizer of the "funnies" a favour.
Until the whole page is published by the Worldcon, I feel I should only show a teaser -- a single panel. After the con, I can post the entire thing.
The work is a little crude, since I was working in a very confined space -- an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper. Also, this is only pencil, worked up over the rough sketch. There was no time for inking if I wanted to make the deadline.
To put my own mark on the material, I've added a character of my own invention -- "Loona." Loona is more or less a stand-in for Saara Mar, except Loona has no idea where she came from or who she really is. She simply appeared on Scrooge's doorstep one night during an unusual lightning storm. I did start an origin story, but ground to a half when I realized I had no idea how to end it.
